Aptera Typ-1

ApteraZero to Sixty in Ten Seconds

by Mark Yannone

The three-wheel Aptera is a two-passenger, one infant, 15-grocery-bag electric vehicle that is being introduced in California this year at a retail price of $26,900. For another $3000 you can have a plug-in hybrid vehicle that includes a small, clean, quiet, water-cooled, gasoline engine. The all-electric model yields a gasoline equivalent mileage of 300 mpg and has a top speed of 90 mph and a range of 120 miles (three times greater than the average American daily commute). Batteries will recharge in two to four hours with household current for a dollar or two. Though it's technically registered as a three-wheeled motorcycle requiring only a single license plate, this stable, crashworthy vehicle comes with all of the interior amenities of a four-wheel gas-guzzler, and much more. The waiting list for this sleek puppy is growing already.
